The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Romans 8:11 NLT
Can you even imagine what it would have been like to be the Roman soldiers stationed at the tomb when Jesus was resurrected? Matthew tells us that early on Sunday morning, “Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint” (Matthew 28:2-4 NLT). I can understand that completely! The power they saw with their own eyes was like nothing we can even imagine.
Yet, the Spirit of God, the Source of that power, lives in us! Truly! The same miraculous power that conquered the grave, brought Jesus back to life, and walked Him right out of that tomb is actively residing in you right now. This means that the Holy Spirit is a source of strength, comfort, and divine power available to us in our present-day lives; it’s not just a future promise. We are promised that because Jesus conquered death, we will too. The Spirit of God will give life to our “mortal” bodies – our physical, temporary, perishable human bodies that are subject to death and decay. Though our fragile forms will not live forever on their own, the power of God will give us everlasting life.
But it’s even more than that. When you belong to Christ, the Spirit of God makes His home within you. He is available with all His mighty power right here and now. He ensures that you are never alone in your struggles or challenges. When you are weary, discouraged, or weak, you can rely on the power within you. If the power of His Spirit within you can conquer the grave, it is well able to handle anything you might encounter. Whether you face a health challenge, relational stress, devastating grief, crippling addiction, deep despair, or anything else life is capable of handing to you, the power within you is enough.
Living in this power is only possible as we yield to the Spirit's leadership daily. As you align your thoughts and actions with Him, His life and power flow through you. You will conquer!
- Jesus, I thank You that the same resurrection power that raised You from the grave now lives in me. Right now I ask Your Holy Spirit to breathe life into my body and soul. Help me walk in Your strength, not my own.
