Today’s Scripture: Luke 10:38-42
When Jesus visited the home of Martha and Mary, both sisters welcomed Him. Both cared about Him. Yet they responded to His presence in very different ways.
Martha immediately became busy with preparations. She worked hard to make sure everything was done correctly. Mary, however, chose something different. She sat at Jesus’ feet and listened. Eventually Martha became frustrated. While she was working, Mary seemed to be doing nothing. She asked Jesus to tell Mary to help.
But Jesus gently corrected her: “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.”
Jesus was not criticizing service. Service is important. Throughout Scripture, serving others is a beautiful expression of worship. What Jesus addressed was Martha’s distraction. She had become so focused on doing things for Jesus that she was missing the opportunity to be with Jesus.
Many of us can relate.
We stay busy with responsibilities, schedules, ministry, work, and family obligations. We may spend time doing things that are good, yet neglect the most important thing—cultivating a relationship with God.
The Christian life is not primarily about performance. It is about relationship.
Before God asks you to do anything for Him, He invites you to spend time with Him. He desires your heart more than your activity.
The invitation remains the same today: Slow down, sit at His feet, and enjoy His presence.

PRAYER
Father, forgive me for the times I stay so busy doing things for You that I miss the gift of being with You. Quiet my anxious heart. Help me slow down, sit at Your feet, and treasure Your presence above my activity.
