Today’s Scripture: Colossians 3:12-14
Every morning we choose what to wear.
Paul uses that familiar picture to describe the character of a follower of Jesus.
He tells believers to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love.
These qualities do not appear naturally. They are developed as we walk with Christ.
Compassion helps us see people through God’s eyes.
- Kindness reflects His heart.
- Humility reminds us that life is not all about us.
- Patience helps us endure difficult situations.
- Forgiveness releases bitterness and extends grace.
- Love binds them all together.
The world often values power, status, and self-promotion. Jesus values character. Character is what remains when circumstances become difficult. Anyone can be kind when life is easy. The true test comes when people are frustrating, circumstances are challenging, and emotions are running high.
The Holy Spirit works within us to develop Christlike character over time.
Growth is not measured by perfection. Growth is measured by progress.
The more time we spend with Jesus, the more we begin to resemble Him.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
Which Christlike quality do you need most today? Ask God to help you intentionally practice it.
PRAYER
Father, each day help me also choose to clothe myself in the character of Christ. Develop compassion, kindness, humility, patience, and forgiveness in me, binding them all together with love. When people frustrate me and circumstances are hard, refocus me to resemble Jesus.
