Today’s Scripture: Mark 8:34-38
Following Jesus is free. Following Jesus also costs everything. That may sound like a contradiction, but it captures the heart of discipleship.
Salvation is a gift of grace. We cannot earn it. Yet once we receive it, Jesus calls us to follow Him wholeheartedly.
He asks us to take up our cross. To surrender our lives. To place Him above everything else.
The cost is real.
Following Jesus may require sacrificing comfort, popularity, convenience, or personal ambitions. But Jesus also asks a powerful question: “What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?”
Many people spend their lives pursuing success, possessions, and recognition only to discover those things cannot satisfy the deepest needs of the heart.
Jesus offers something greater.
- Purpose
- Hope
- Forgiveness
- Eternal life
The question is not whether discipleship costs something. The question is whether what Jesus offers is worth it. And the answer is yes. Nothing we surrender compares to what we gain in Christ.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
What sacrifice feels most difficult for you right now? Ask God to help you trust that following Him is worth the cost.
PRAYER
Jesus, thank You for salvation as the gift of grace I could never earn. You also call me to follow You wholeheartedly. When the cost feels heavy, help me trust that nothing I surrender compares to what I gain in You. You are worth everything.
