The Power of Humility

The Power of Humility

October 16, 2026

Today’s Scripture: Philippians 2:5-8

Humility is one of the most powerful qualities in the Christian life. It is also one of the most misunderstood.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.

Paul points to Jesus as the ultimate example.

Although Jesus was fully God, He willingly laid aside His privileges, took on the nature of a servant, and humbled Himself in obedience to the Father. His humility led Him all the way to the cross.

The world often associates greatness with self-promotion. Jesus demonstrated greatness through self-sacrifice.

Humility allows us to serve without needing recognition. It allows us to celebrate others without comparison. It allows us to listen, learn, and grow.

Pride seeks attention. Humility seeks opportunities to help.

Pride asks, “What do I deserve?” Humility asks, “How can I serve?”

The beauty of humility is that it creates room for God to work in powerful ways. When we stop making life all about ourselves, we become available for God’s purposes.

Humility is not weakness. It is strength under God’s control. And it is one of the clearest reflections of the character of Christ.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Ask God to reveal any areas where pride may be influencing your attitude or actions. Invite Him to develop a heart of humility within you.

PRAYER

Lord, teach me true humility, not thinking less of myself, but thinking of myself less. Jesus, You laid aside Your privileges, took the nature of a servant, and humbled Yourself to the cross. Free me from pride that seeks attention, and give me a heart that seeks opportunities to help.
