Managers, Not Owners

Managers, Not Owners

October 19, 2026

Today’s Scripture: 1 Chronicles 29:11-12

David’s prayer in 1 Chronicles 29 is a powerful reminder of who God is and who we are.

As king, David possessed tremendous wealth and influence. Yet when it came time to dedicate resources for the temple, he acknowledged that everything had come from God in the first place.

This is the heart of stewardship. Stewardship begins when we recognize that we are managers, not owners. An owner has ultimate authority over what belongs to them. A manager is responsible for caring for something that belongs to someone else.

God has entrusted each of us with resources, opportunities, talents, relationships, and influence. Our responsibility is not simply to enjoy them but to manage them faithfully.

Jesus often taught about stewardship because He knew it revealed the condition of our hearts. Faithful stewards recognize that everything they have is temporary. They understand that one day they will give an account for how they used what God placed in their care.

This truth is not meant to create pressure. It creates purpose.

  • Your resources have meaning
  • Your gifts have purpose
  • Your opportunities matter

God has entrusted them to you for a reason.

The question is not how much you have. The question is how faithfully you are using what God has already provided. Faithfulness, not abundance, is what God honors.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What resources, abilities, or opportunities has God entrusted to you right now? How can you manage them more intentionally for His glory?

PRAYER

Lord, open my eyes to see that I am a manager, not an owner. Give me wisdom to steward my resources, talents, and opportunities with faithfulness. Help me remember that my worth is found in how I use what You have provided. May my life reflect gratitude and accountability to You. Transform my heart to manage all You have entrusted to me for Your glory.
